This winter will pass. It has to. And the time shall come when you venture outside for longer spells, perhaps with your tablet or laptop in hand. Where to go when you want WiFi in downtown Boston and you don’t want to buy a cup of coffee for the privilege? Look no further than these 10 spots offering just that! Most are outdoors; one’s a train station; a couple are malls.
BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
The main branch, like the city’s smaller branches, offers free WiFi, though not necessarily a place to plug in your laptop.
Beware the slower bandwith and the tourists!
QUINCY MARKET
Ditto the warnings about tourists and slower bandwith as with Faneuil Hall.
Browse before your train or bus; or go there in a pinch for decent wireless.
The Harbor-side park is one of the prettier places for working outside.
CITY HALL PLAZA
The actual City Hall is ugly as sin or bold as hell. Either way, the plaza outside has free WiFi.
THE SHOPS AT PRUDENTIAL CENTER
Free WiFi inside and out, and individual stores might have their own setups, too.
The shopping mall offers free WiFi.
When all else fails, pick a spot along the Greenway.
ATLANTIC AVENUE, BOSTON, MA 02110
